Colorado Chooses Safety Net Connect’s Enterprise eConsult Platform
for Statewide Medicaid Initiative
The eConsult initiative advances Colorado’s mission for equitable, accessible, and improved
healthcare outcomes for Health First Colorado members.

Safety Net Connect (SNC), a leading provider of advanced virtual care solutions, has been selected by the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (HCPF) to implement their cutting-edge eConsult platform for a statewide Medicaid implementation. Reviewed and approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), this innovative initiative is designed to support the HCPF mission to improve health care equity, access to care, and outcomes for Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) beneficiaries.
eConsult reduces barriers and expedites the delivery of high-quality care while enabling physicians to practice at the top of their scope,
shared Chris Cruttenden, President of Safety Net Connect. Statewide adoption of eConsult is a significant step toward increasing equitable access for Medicaid members across Colorado.
The eConsult platform, a proven technology for efficiently and consistently delivering high quality healthcare for underserved populations, will facilitate seamless electronic communication between Primary Care Medicaid Providers (PCMPs) and specialist providers throughout the state. By enabling collaboration in determining the most effective care plans, the platform promises a more convenient and satisfying experience for members. With over a decade of successful implementation for safety net Medicaid plans across rural and urban settings, SNC’s eConsult technology offers numerous advantages, including expedited access to specialty care, improved quality of referrals, and reduced costs.
How the Colorado HCPF eConsult platform will work:
Electronic consultations, or “eConsults”, are asynchronous (store and forward) clinical communications between a PCMP and a specialty provider. The PCMP first transmits a secure eConsult request to a specialty provider. The specialty provider will then provide electronic medical guidance that assists the PCMP in the diagnosis or management of the member’s health care needs. The eConsult can result in a referral for a face-to-face visit with a specialty provider when clinically appropriate. In these instances, referrals will be made to specialty providers who are proven to improve quality outcomes, add value, and reduce costs specific to the specialty care required. By implementing the eConsult platform, Colorado is taking a significant step towards enhancing healthcare equity and improving access for Medicaid members. Safety Net Connect’s expertise and technology will play a pivotal role in achieving these objectives.

Safety Net Connect (SNC), a leading provider of innovative healthcare solutions, celebrates ConferMED’s milestone achievement delivering over 100,000 specialty eConsults to vulnerable patients in medically underserved communities across the nation using SNC’s Converge telehealth platform.
ConferMED is fiercely dedicated to the idea that access to high quality healthcare should be a right (not a privilege) for everyone regardless of geography or ability to pay. This shared principle served as the foundation for the partnership between SNC and ConferMED, which began nearly a decade ago as the two organizations joined forces to create effective telehealth solutions to bridge the health equity gap and increase access to specialty care in underserved communities.
“Our primary care providers do an amazing job ensuring that their patients receive comprehensive care,” explained Dr. Daren Anderson, ConferMED Founder and President. “ConferMED’s SNC-driven eConsults and live video sessions help to expand the provider’s capabilities to diagnose and manage more complex conditions — and in many cases provide care that might otherwise be unavailable to their patients.”
Using SNC’s platform combined with a novel workflow process, the ConferMED team has delivered specialty care to more than 100,000 patients across the U.S., in collaboration with more than 3,000 primary care providers. “We’re excited to celebrate this critical milestone and the dedicated ConferMED staff, specialists and primary care users who made it happen,” shared Keith Matsutsuyu, CEO of Safety Net Connect. “It’s truly an honor to partner with ConferMED, a leader in healthcare innovation that shares our passion for increasing health equity and access to care across all communities.”
With nearly 300 specialists across all major adult and pediatric specialty care disciplines, ConferMED supports practices nationwide looking to improve access and reduce the cost of specialty care. ConferMED’s specialists quickly review cases, provide input to primary care providers, and develop the optimal care plan for patients. This process improves chronic disease outcomes, reduces unnecessary emergency room visits and hospital admissions, and prevents long-term complications.
